ABOUT JAZZICAL

Starting from the conventional, Jazzical modernises familiar tunes of classical music to new possibilities. Joyce CHEUNG leads her 13-piece ensemble, presenting a collection of familiar classical pieces fused with a jazz spirit. The project features musicians from a range of backgrounds, takes inspiration from jazz and fusion, and promises an accessible, easy-listening evening experience.

Joyce’s words (for the album)

This project began in 2011, when I first started my music degree at Berklee College of Music. A decade, a master thesis and numerous revisions later, I was thrilled to finally present it on stage.

In this album you will hear many different things - they are stories and inspirations that I have gathered over the last ten years of my life in music. Some parts you will recognize, some you may not. But I challenge you to listen closely, particularly for sounds, notes and melodies that you are less familiar with. The more you listen, the more you discover. They will open your ears to a bigger world. And the next time you go to a show, you will hear so much more. And that, to me, is the most rewarding gift for both the audience and the artists.
